Welp, I’ll be heading out of the country in two days. An early morning flight out of a fairly small airport, then two stops in very large airports. By this Sunday evening, I should be down in the Dominican Republic.
For those of you who might not know, I have an opportunity for a missions internship with a group called Crosswinds. Crosswinds is a faith-based organization bringing hope to individuals, families, couples, and struggling teens.
One branch of their work is a year-round Christian therapeutic boarding school in the Dominican Republic. The school ministers to English-speaking teenagers who are struggling with behavioral issues or academics, pulling them out of the crazy environment that they’re in and giving them a place to step back and take a look at their life.
This is where I’ll be until the end of May/beginning of June. I’ll be operating as a youth coach where I’ll work one on one with these students, including aid in day by day struggles, counseling, and simply living with them.
And I’m beyond excited.
To be honest, I’ve barely thought beyond the flight down and going through customs. Once that’s all done, the reality of what I’m doing will probably crash in. I am excited though.
As far as writing goes, I’m not sure how much I’ll get done in the next few months. I still plan to post on the blog twice a month. The first post will be normal–well, as normal as things ever are around here. The second post will have pictures and talk about my experiences. If you want to keep up to date on what I’m doing down there, you can sign up for a special newsletter I’ve created just for that. I’ll try to send things out every other week or so. Sign up here.
*salutes* looking forward to recounting what I learn and my adventures.
Keep me in your prayers. I’ll need them.
